An Informed Review of the Alima Pure Foundation

OK, so I first came across Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation when I was working with the team at skinSALVATION acne clinic in San Francisco. They recommended this loose mineral foundation because it has buildable coverage, not a lot of ingredients, and, best of all, doesn't irritate your skin.

This is literally just one of those foundations I've ever found that seriously never breaks me out no matter what. I mean, there are so many foundation formulas out there that literally just irritate the heck out of my sensitive, eczema-prone, and acne-prone skin. I can definitely rely on the Alima Pure Foundation to cover up my breakouts and redness without making me break out even more.

You know that top loose mineral foundation brand out there? Well, it totally messes with my skin like nothing else. I have no idea what is in it, but every time I put that loose foundation on my face, I can just feel my skin start to tingle a bit. It gets a little red, and I swear it's as though my skin barrier is just giving up during the wear of that stuff. I don't get that sensation when I use Alima Pure foundation! I'm really into Alima Pure because it is run by women. Plus, they use clean, non-toxic stuff that I can totally trust won't mess with my skin. In this review, I'm all about being obsessed with the Alima Pure foundation, and I'll break down why I think it's an awesome product for every skin type and tone.

My Honest Alima Pure Foundation Review

Coverage

So, basically, there are two types of people out there: those who load completely on a lot of foundation every day and others who like it simple-easier on the makeup altogether.

I used to belong to the first group, but now I am with the second squad. There is nothing worse than slapping on way too much foundation and looking like I'm totally trying to hide something. I tend to avoid a lot of liquid foundations for a number of reasons. The first and foremost is, most of them just don't look natural on my skin whatsoever. So Alima Pure foundation is like none other. It is super light and doesn't feel heavy on your skin at all. If I have any blemishes that I'd like to conceal, I just layer the powder a little bit more overtop; it covers up the redness and the pimples. But honestly, sometimes I'm cool with a few breakouts showing through. You know, the more you try to mask a pimple with thick foundation, it only stands out like a sore thumb.

They will be way more likely to zero in on your pimple, that is highly covered up, than if you let it breathe.

You know, as I get older, I’m realizing that the more you try to hide stuff about yourself, people totally pick up on it and end up finding your lack of confidence pretty unattractive. I feel the same with covering acne; if you're one of those people that like a lot of coverage, I'd probably go for something else. But with me, I can get pretty good coverage with this foundation if I feel like I need it and layer it. Still, I wouldn't really call it full-coverage foundation or anything. Hey, who remembers that old adage, "swirl, tap, and buff?"

"Alright, so this is how I am totally applying my Alima Pure foundation."

I totally love that this product has this huge lid so I can really swirl my brush around in it.

I really enjoy using this small, round concealer brush to work the foundation over any blemishes or redness I've got going on. Once I have those all covered, I take that same brush and just smooth a light layer over the rest of my face. Typically with this foundation, I don't put on any more than two layers onto my face.
Honestly, it seems to mix really well and is going on my skin super easily every day.

What I really dig about this foundation is that, with the finish, it's completely different depending on what you slather on beforehand. The name makes it sound like it's matte, but I've found ways of making it all glowy instead. If you just throw on a regular moisturizer that doesn't have anything in it like "glow," then you will see this foundation end up looking matte on your skin.

In all, I had been using Skinfix Triple Lipid Peptide Cream on my face for a couple of months. Honestly, I am impressed by how awesome Alima Pure foundation looks over this moisturizer-it gives this nice, natural glow to the skin without messing up the foundation too fast. Just a quick word: this foundation vibes with most of the neutrals, peach undertones; it might not be the best match, though, for slightly warmer skin tones since it's more on the cooler side.

You know what I'm really enjoying about the Alima Pure foundation? It doesn't budge all day and doesn't get all cakey or break apart on you. Of course, sometimes I need to wash some off and reapply for the latter half of the day. But let me tell you, it seriously lasted way longer than any of the sheer liquid foundations I've tried over the years. And trust me, I've tried a ton.

Acne-safe

I just love that this foundation is acne-safe, but it also really covers my breakouts well. I don't know if I'll ever be able to explain it well, but this foundation somehow really fills in the little nooks of my pimples, regardless of where they might be in their healing process.
So, I have been trying out different foundations. Honestly, those liquid silk ones make my acne stand out. They just don't vibe with my skin and somehow make each dry pimple look even worse. I end up having to wipe off the liquid stuff and put my Alima Pure foundation back on top. It just makes everything super noticeable.

It's kinda weird, right? You'd think that if you've got dry patches, you'd go for a liquid, hydrating foundation. But honestly, I found it just makes my dryness stand out more. The Alima Pure foundation doesn't really make your skin look any more hydrated than it is, but it doesn't highlight those dry spots and blemishes either.

So this foundation never aggravates my skin, and that's just a big relief. Every now and then I will pull out some fancier liquid foundation for a special occasion-you know, when my skin is actually cooperating. But most days, I just use my Alima Pure foundation because it really does work quite well. And it's not going to bother me during the day.

How to apply Alima Pure Foundation

Just tap the powder into the bottom of the cap.

You don't want to overfill the cap with powder, neither do you want to fill it too little. Teий seldom return excess powder to the jar. Just make sure you are pouring the right amount in.

Sometimes, that's just easier with the little dispenser on the jar, sliding it shut and opening it again when you need more. If you leave it open, you might get way too much powder in there, then you're gonna pour too much into the cap when you wanna use it.

Just swish some powder on your brush.

Then you want to swirl the powder in the cap with a makeup brush. I do this one of a couple of ways. First, I pick up a round concealer brush to dot the product on blemishes and those pesky red spots on my face. I'm quite a fan of the 300 Deluxe Crease Brush from Real Techniques. Although intended for eyeshadow, it really does its job when covering pimples too.
So, after covering up my blemishes, I would just throw on some light coverage over the rest of my face. I really love using the biggest foundation brush from this Ecotools Set to apply the powder. You can totally use a flat top brush too, such as this Alima Pure Flat Top Brush, for application.

Just rub the powder into your skin.

Just make sure you apply the powder equally on either side of your face. And don't forget to buff it outward. Press into the skin, and watch it meld in fabulously! I just love how I don't even need a finishing powder or cream concealer with the Alima Pure foundation.
