You Only Need This NARS Foundation Review
You aren't even a beauty girl if you haven't tried NARS out yet! And if you're thinking about their foundation, you have to read this NARS foundation review. Just so you know, NARS Cosmetics has been around forever-1994, to be precise. It is one of the top makeup brands right now. This is a super popular brand because it has fantastic high-performance products with super sleek and sexy packaging. It's a go-to for any professional makeup artists and regular makeup lovers like us. The NARS foundations really are some of their best sellers-they've got a load of options available when it comes to coverage, finish, and shade.
You know, just like with loads of foundation products out there, people with darker skin tones don't really have many options. Of course, it's a big problem and such a bummer. However, being real, I think NARS does such a better job providing shades for deeper skin tones than some of the other big beauty companies.
Hey, I'm gonna share with you my take on NARS foundation. I have a bunch of their top-selling foundations in all sorts of finishes and levels of coverage. Continue reading to find out what I think.
My NARS Foundation Review
What I think really sets NARS foundations apart from the rest is the unique formula used. Each formula blends into skin seamlessly and beautifully and sits on skin perfectly, too.You can find them in all kinds of finishes, whether you're into matte, sheer, glowy, or radiant vibes. Yeah, the prices are a bit high, but they're not the priciest foundations you'll find at Sephora-trust me. Keep reading for my take on all of the NARS foundations I've got!
The Best Nars Foundations From the Brand
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30
This pick surprised the hell out of me, as I really, really loved it. I started using it not long ago, and it was really just the type of foundation I'm into. Super sheer but covers all that I need it to. If you're looking for a bit more coverage, the formula's pretty easy to layer. It's a thicker consistency compared to the rest of the formulas in this NARS foundation review. Plus, I'm really into that it includes SPF 30 in there. I don't have to stress too much about putting on sunscreen.
This formula has a cool finish, you know, but it's not too matte nor too shiny. Seriously, I really love how it makes my skin look. Like, it's such a great base for bronzer and blush and highlighter. I use the shade Finland, Light 1, and I think that's a pretty good fit for my skin tone. I wouldn't trade this for my regular moisturizer in winter, I don't think. I'd put my moisturizer on first, and then layer this tinted moisturizer over. For those hot, humid months, though? Yeah, I can totally see using this as both my moisturizer and foundation. One thing I really like about this formula is that it does not bug my skin whatsoever. I don't get itchy, and I don't experience breakouts when I use this pick. You know, when it comes to choosing my foundation, that's super important. Just a note: this formula does contain a lot of different types of dimethicone within it.
I have been experimenting with various formulae of dimethicone for the last one year or so. I feel that this ingredient does not irritate my skin in the least. One of the best examples is Shani Darden Skin Care Weightless Oil-Free Moisturizer.
I totally use this moisturizer all the time, and guess what? The fourth ingredient is dimethicone. I never get any irritation or clogged pores from it. If you're sensitive to dimethicone and your skin just doesn't vibe with that stuff, you're probably gonna dislike the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. I have super sensitive, acne-prone skin, and I literally have no problems with this one, though. I'd say this formula is my fave from my NARS foundation review. You can grab it at Sephora for ($46).
NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation
is most likely my second fave from the NARS foundation lineup. I love it because it's so lightweight and extremely sheer. Being that I am not fond of heavy foundations, this formula is honestly just right for me.It kinda feels like nothing on your skin and gives you light to medium coverage.
You can definitely add a few more layers to get that fuller coverage if that is what you're after. It's a little bit on the shinier side, so you might want to set it with a setting powder after application. So, this foundation isn't just about covering up; it really has some skincare merits to boot. This contains biomimetic oat to help with soothing redness on your skin. There's Japanese lilyturf to strengthen your skin barrier. And, hey, it contains milk thistle and cacao peptides to protect your skin against stuff like blue light and other environmental stress.
One more thing I completely love about this foundation is that it exactly fits my skin tone. It's not too pink nor too yellow; it's got neutral undertones that just work for me. I use Mont Blanc (L2). This formula comes in 36 shades-a pretty good range-so you should find one that vibes with your natural skin tone.
So, I checked out Sofie Pavitt's Ingredients Checker to check if this foundation was cool for acne-prone skin, and it is. But honestly, the first time I used this, I think it gave me a pimple on my chin. I might be off base, though, so I should probably give it another shot to see if it breaks me out again. Just something to keep in mind!
Just a warning: if you have oily skin, you won't like this formula too much, since it does leave just a little shine on.
Available at Sephora ($50)
NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
But if you need a foundation that lasts a lifetime-for your wedding, for instance, or a very, very important event-you need to try the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. I used this for a birthday party in a wig some time back, and it totally stayed on my face hours into the party-even when I was sweating from dancing and singing my heart out at karaoke. Honestly, this foundation isn't really one of my go-tos.
It's kinda thin and watery, and it feels super lightweight on my skin. Honestly, I could barely even feel it at all during the night. It's definitely got a natural finish and doesn't give me that "glowiness" that some other foundations or tinted moisturizers do. It's not matte, but if I had to go for a foundation which is semi-matte, not shiny, and not glowy, this would be the one. I felt that this didn't cake up on my acne and it really just stayed put all night-kind of like the Magic Minerals Airbrush Foundation. It does blend pretty easily into my skin, but I do see that it doesn't soak in quite as well as some of the other NARS foundations.
Available at Sephora ($50)
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
Okay, so I don't have this foundation on me right now, but I used to use it sometimes. So, I can tell you a bit about it. The NARS Sheer Glow Foundation is sort of the classic one that NARS is totally famous for.
Honestly, I think this product's name is misleading because it really is not sheer at all, and I am not sure whether it is as "glowy" as stated. This foundation provides medium coverage and looks pretty natural on the skin.
It's definitely not matte, so yeah, I'd say that has a little bit of a glow to it, but it's not too wild.
But all this I remember is not really loved by me, because the amount of coverage it gave was more than what I usually prefer.
I also don't remember this foundation lasting super long on my skin.
Honestly, I remember thinking I looked super weird in pics after using this foundation now and then. You can grab it at Sephora for $47.
So, is Nars Foundation any good?
Of course, I do think that the NARS foundation is a solid choice, really recommendable. For nearly every finish you can think of, they have a formula for it: radiant, natural, matte, sheer, full-coverage. name it. I also love that the foundations are in a glass bottle; it gives them that fancy, high-brow feel. I just checked out, so you know, the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation. Because I'm not really into matte foundations, so it was a waste to spend my cash on that! Honestly, my favorite out of all of them was definitely the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. I know, I know, it's not really a shocker since I'm all about that sheer foundation life. I was blown away by this formula and just love how natural it looks on my skin. If you like a foundation that offers a bit more coverage, I would probably choose the NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation. If you're someone who likes a foundation that is a bit more on the matte/less shiny side, I would pick the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. I've tried so many products for this NARS foundation review, and hardly any have caused my super sensitive skin to freak out. But just a warning-this brand isn't particularly thought of as super "clean." They use synthetic stuff in their products, like with that super-popular Laura Geller makeup. I'm cool with it, but some people may not be into that.
