Review of Tula Skincare: What's Worth It and What Isn't
So, I kinda feel like I'm just getting into the whole Tula skincare thing. I actually met the founder, Dr. Roshini Raj, a long time ago when I was working at Family Circle magazine as an Assistant Beauty Editor. Although I'd heard about the brand before, I really hadn't tried out a bunch of Tula stuff until just recently. So, Dr. Raj is a gastroenterologist, and she figured, why not kick off a skincare line with probiotics after hearing about all the cool stuff probiotics do for our gut and skin microbiome. Tula Skincare Review
Tula really focuses on how awesome probiotics are, which distinguishes it from all the other skincare stuff out there. Lately, studies just keep coming out showing how great probiotics can be for your skin's microbiome; they can seriously help with annoying skin problems like acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and a bunch more.
Hi guys, just gonna be brutally honest with you about Tula skincare products, whether or not I believe they're worth the cash. First of all, let me say this: I got these products as a gift for my gig in beauty journalism. But don't worry, this review isn't sponsored, and I'm not getting paid by the brand or anything.
Tula Skincare Review
So, I have this Tula skincare review, and it's going to be about the skincare stuff they sent me to check out. You're gonna see reviews on the products that I really like, plus some on the ones that I think you might wanna skip. I'll throw in some thoughts on a couple of makeup products I got, too. I've ranked them from my faves to the ones I wasn't so into!
Tula Skincare Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser
You can't speak on Tula skincare without shouting out the Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser. This is definitely in my top picks from the line. And get this, it's Tula Skincare's best-seller-UM, like one gets sold every 30 seconds! It really works super great at taking off makeup and all of the gunk on my skin after a long day, and it smells really nice, too. It doesn’t foam up a ton, but it still gets everything off my skin. I really like that it doesn’t dry me out and my face feels all hydrated after I cleanse. It’s got a light scent, but it’s not so strong that it bothers my skin. It's got probiotics, prebiotics, which are essentially the food for the probiotics, turmeric root extract, white tea, safflower seed oil, camelina seed oil, and blueberry to help give your skin's microbiome a little boost while giving you some anti-inflammatory perks.
This formula contains aqua/water/eau, cocamidopropyl betaine, tocopheryl acetate, caprylyl glycol, ascorbyl palmitate, butylphenyl methylpropional, and butylene glycol. Cool stuff to use on the skin, but this product isn't totally "organic" or "natural," just so you know.

Tula Skincare Dew Your Thing Moisturizing Gel Cream
Hi, I just adore this formula; it's great that it is approved by Sofie Pavitt-I actually refer to her ingredients list for acne-safe skincare all the time. But seriously, I wouldn't call this a cream: this formula is very light-weight, and it feels more like a serum or thick toner instead of cream or lotion. Love that this is oil-free, just perfect for oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin.
I really don't think this is going to clog my pores or give me any breakouts, which is such a relief. My skin's kind of dry, though, and with this product, I really don't feel like I'm getting enough moisture if I were to just put it on as my lotion every day. I would suggest putting something on over it if your skin is similarly dry. But, man, if you have oily or combination skin, this stuff's great for you. You can get it at TULA Skincare.
Tula Skincare's Claydate Detoxing & Toning Face Mask Stick
So, when I was trying out this Tula skincare review, I really didn't think much about this mask stick. But gotta say, when I tried it first time, was really positively surprised. First of all, it smells amazing! Note that it does have added fragrance parfum, so if you're super sensitive to scents or perfume, you might wanna go with another clay mask that's fragrance-free. But it is really not too strong in this product.
What I really loved about this product was how easy it is to apply. Normally, when applying a clay mask, I need to use my fingers and try spreading across my face. This stick was super easy to just glide on, and the clay mask came off of it with absolutely no fuss. It made the whole thing so easy, totally simple, and completely mess-free, too.
I've only really tried it a couple of times, so I really can't say that it has done a lot for my skin, but honestly, I'm really not into clay masks anyway. My skin is pretty dry, so I usually go for something more hydrating than detoxifying/purifying. If you like clay masks, then I would definitely recommend giving this a try. It was super easy to work with. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare's So Poreless Deep Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub
Well, I've never really used a scrub as thick as this, and I loved the texture and how well it sanded skin every time I used it. It also smells nice and is super easy to work into skin with just a little water for the massage. I will say it's moderately abrasive: not as rough as St. Ives Apricot Scrub but not so gentle that you feel like it's not doing much of anything. And just like most scrubs, I really would not use this as my only cleanser.
I absolutely love taking my makeup off with the Purifying Cleanser and then hitting up this scrub once or twice a week after washing up to make my skin all nice and smooth. You could probably use this as your morning cleanser a few times a week, but it's not gonna do a great job at getting rid of makeup, plus I wouldn't recommend rubbing it near your eyes. You can get it at TULA Skincare.
Tula Skincare Rose Glow + Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm
Honestly, I gotta admit, at first, I didn't really get this product. It's kinda like a highlighter but for your eyes. It comes in three different shades-there's Rose Glow and Gold Glow, which I've got, and then there's Glow, which I don't have. It's got this really light shimmer to it. It's just that this formula makes your eyes look all fresh and dewy, like you just woke up, 'cause the light bounces off that shiny sheen. Honestly, the shimmer in it is super subtle; I'm not even sure I'd really call it shimmer. It has this pearlescent finish to it.
I think this is a cool product to use in the morning when you wake up and want to make your face look more awake. Probably won't use this at night as my eye cream, though. It's not super thick and doesn't have the anti-aging perks that I usually want in a heavy eye cream for nighttime. Honestly, this is a great buy if you're into eye products for daytime. Plus, it's super easy to use it as a highlighter on your cheekbones, nose, or even your brow bone. This one has that kind of cooling formula with caffeine in it to actually help the skin of the eye be a little tighter and firmer. You can grab it at TULA Skincare.
Tula Skincare's 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream is awesome!
This is one of Tula's best-sellers. It's this nice cream that feels super lightweight but still rich on your skin. Like the name says, you can use it during the day and at night. There isn't any SPF in it, so you don't have to stress about putting it on before bed.
Man, I have a few problems with this cream. First of all, it contains fragrance. That's just something my sensitive skin can't take. I really wish more brands would come out with fragrance-free options. If that wasn't enough, this thing contains two pore-clogging ingredients, according to the Sofie Pavitt Ingredients Checker for things that cause acne to pop up-we're talking ethylhexyl palmitate and hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Honestly, I don't really think that I am going to be using this cream very much. I'm actually a little afraid that it is going to clog my pores and cause me to break out. But for anybody not having sensitive skin, and who is not battling with acne, man, this would probably be a great moisturizer for you. It is so amazing on your skin and keeps you hydrated throughout the day. It also makes your face really glowy, which is fabulous under makeup. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Intense Ultra Hydrating Day & Night Cream
This formula is like the thicker version of the Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream. The texture totally reminds me of the La Mer cream. It’s super rich, super hydrating, and perfect for winter.
Unfortunately, this is yet another cream containing ingredients that can cause comedones, such as ethylhexyl palmitate and hydrogenated vegetable oil. Because of this, I won't be using this cream that often. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I go back and forth on whether I really like the Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30. But I do dig how this stuff feels on my skin-it's got that gel vibe and sinks in really quick. The smell is totally sunscreen-y, which people may find a bit too much.
So, the reason I wasn't a fan of this one is that I really don't think it did a good job of protecting my skin from the sun! Usually, I slap on an SPF 30 on my face when I'm out in the sun. But, I still ended up getting burned while using this one. To be fair to the SPF, I was outside for hours at the beach when I tried out this sunscreen. But I was still wearing a hat and under an umbrella. So maybe that really contributed to my burn lol. But I still got a burn while wearing this one. I probably should've reapplied. Whoops! Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare Tri-Supreme Overnight Oil Concentrate
If you're into facial oils, you're going to totally dig this one from Tula. Infused with prebiotics and probiotics, peptides, and a whole slew of other amazing stuff, it's going to shrink the look of fine lines and wrinkles, improve your skin's moisture barrier, and even out skin tone.
So, I have super sensitive skin that breaks out easily. Because of that, I've kinda freaked out about using oils for ages-super dry skin and acne-prone; see some of the best skincare for it here. I gave this overnight oil concentrate a shot for one night and woke up with a pimple on my chin. But really, I think it was just a pimple that was already trying to come out, so I can't really blame the oil for that.
So, I checked out Sofie Pavitt's ingredient checker, and it said this oil is cool to use on acne-prone and sensitive skin. Honestly, it felt amazing putting this on my face; however, I just can't say that it completely soaked in. It still left my face a bit oily when hitting the bed, which, of course, I guess is what's to be expected for a face oil.
I didn't apply any moisturizer on top of this oil because I think it would be too many products and too much greasiness on my face. All that said, if you like face oils and are looking for a hydrating pick that also does double-duty in anti-aging, this is a great option for you. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm
There is this amazing lip treatment in three different colors; it is thick and feels sort of heavy like gloss on your lips. Also, with hyaluronic acid, lip peptides, and prebiotics and probiotics in it, it will keep your lips all smooth, hydrated, and plump.
It is super nice shades, and honestly, I think the balm lasts longer than other lip stuff since it's so thick. But hey, it is kind of pricey at $18 a pop. I mean, I probably wouldn't drop almost 20 bucks on a lip balm, but if you're always grabbing for your lip gloss, then it might be worth it to you. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare Filter Primer Blurring & Smoothing Primer
This primer is, meh. My skin is this primer's five shades, and to be frank, the lightest still feels a tad too dark on me. It also contains an ingredient called ethylhexyl palmitate, which possibly will clog pores. I had this on my face, and by the end of the day, my makeup was super cakey. But you know, putting this on the back of my hand, I totally can see that it makes the skin look a bit softer. That, and it does give the skin a pretty, subtle glow, which some might thoroughly enjoy. Since this contains something that can block pores, I'm just a bit concerned about using it all the time, in fear of breaking out. If you don't really break out that often, then I totally think this primer is worth getting. You can find it at TULA Skincare.
Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Concealer
This concealer is amazing! I really love the creaminess, and it goes on super smooth. It has 20 shades to choose from. You can actually use it under your eyes, on spots, or literally anywhere you'd like that needs a little more cover-up. I do think this concealer works amazingly well with Skin Tint.
Since this Skin Tint is super light, it just gives you that extra coverage in places where you may want or need it. The brand says it lasts for 16 hours, but quite honestly, I really don't think it holds up for that amount of time. Just a forewarning, though: this formula contains a couple of ingredients that can potentially clog your pores-like algae and polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate. Available at TULA Skincare
Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Skin Tint SPF 30
My least favorite thing in this review of Tula skincare, hands down, is the Skin Tint. I'm just not feeling it. This stuff goes on super thick and just kind of hangs out on my face. Plus, it contains two ingredients known to clog pores, such as ethylhexyl palmitate and sorbitan oleate. I have had a slight breakout after using it two or three times, but that settled over some days. I really don't like how this cakes up by the end of the day and am being totally honest-I just don't like it that much. I also think the brand color is so wrong; too dark for my skin tone. Silver lining: I love that it has SPF 30 and that it also slightly tints your skin. You can find it at TULA Skincare .

Tula Skincare Routine
So, I do this chill Tula Skincare routine with what I have on hand.
Morning routine:
Step 1 – Tula Skincare's Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser.
Wash your face first thing in the morning. I would recommend using this cleanser or trying the blackhead scrub, depending on what your skin needs that day, but not every day, okay?
Step 2 – Tula Skincare Rose Glow + Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm
After having cleansed one's face, one simply applies the balm around the eye area.
Step 3: Tula Skincare Dew Your Thing Moisturizing Gel Cream
You can definitely use this gel cream as your moisturizer if your skin is a tad oily. If you feel that your skin needs a tad more hydration, then use this cream like a serum.
Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream - Step 4.
Slap this cream on top of the gel cream if you're wanting a little more moisture that day.
Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30 - Step 5:
Apply this sunscreen to avoid damage from UVA/UVB.
Step 6 - Tula Skincare Filter Primer Blurring & Smoothing Primer
Hey, well, if you're thinking about rocking some makeup that day, slap this on as a base.
Step 7 - Tula Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Skin Tint SPF 30,.
Slap on that skin tint over the primer and let it soak in a minute before you load on other makeup.
Step 8: Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Concealer
Just cover up blemishes that might need a little bit more coverage with concealer.
Step 9 – Tula Skincare Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm
Put the treatment balm on the lips, adding color to the face.
Bedtime routine:
1. Tula Skincare – The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser
Wash the day off your face with the cleanser.
Tula Skincare So Poreless Deep Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub: Step 2
Lighten it with scrubbing two to three times a week to exfoliate your skin by peeling off dead skin cells.
Step 3 – Tula Skincare Claydate Detoxing & Toning Face Mask Stick
Try using this mask stick a few times a week to help detox your skin and get those pores nice and clean.
Step 4 – Tula Skincare Tri-Supreme Overnight Oil Concentrate.
Slap this oil concentrate onto your face and neck once you've washed.
Step 5 – Tula Skincare's 24-7 Moisture Intense Ultra Hydrating Day & Night Cream.
Finally, seal it all in with that great night cream.
Is Tula Skincare Worth It?
Some things from Tula Skincare are a total waste of money, but others are really worth it. I really love the cleanser, the scrub, the clay mask stick, the eye balms, the day & night creams-but only if you don't have acne or sensitive skin-the gel cream, and maybe the primer, once again if you don't have acne or sensitive skin. Honestly, I could probably skip the rest of the products I tried and reviewed. So, the things I didn't like were because my skin is super sensitive and acne-prone, and the products just irritated my face. That was something I tried to point out in every review. If you don't have acne-prone or sensitive skin, I really think most of the Tula skincare stuff is totally worth the money. High quality from the feel of them and their ingredients, these are made with clean stuff and deserve the higher price tag they come with.
Where to snag Tula skincare?
